Matthew Gilsenan Celtic Tenor and a true Lyric Tenor, was born and raised in Moynalty, County Meath. Music has been in his bones from an early age, he was initially taught to sing by a nun in the Convent of Mercy in Kells. He has a vast range, which he can deliver in his own unique and powerful way across all genres from Dylan to Cohen, from Puccini to McCormack.
Two decades of touring the world with the internationally renowned Celtic Tenors has brought Matthew to extraordinary venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Vancouver Symphony Hall, Canada to name but a few. Private performances are part and parcel of Matthew’s touring life from performing before Kofi Annan and Bill Clinton to launching prestigious sporting events such as the Dubai Tennis Open, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, NHL Canadian Hockey League, and Munster Rugby matches, every continent has been touched by his charm and talent.
He has collaborated with household names like Cat Stevens and Air Supply to produce platinum selling albums, and toured the United States and the United Kingdom with Celtic Woman and Dionne Warwick. He has shared the stage with The Dubliners, The Chieftains, Sharon Shannon and many more Irish musical icons.
Matthew studied engineering at UCD, while continuing his singing studies at the College of Music, and worked as an engineer in the UK and the USA.
But the allure of music has never left him, and in 1997, he decided to take a six month break from his engineering career, and 'get the music out of my system. Six months should do it, I thought’, says Matthew. Starting off with The National Chamber Choir, and from there to Opera Ireland, Matthew met with fellow Celtic Tenor, James Nelson. From there, the foundation of the most successful crossover act to emerge from Ireland was laid.
More than two decades later, and 13 albums under his belt with the global success that is The Celtic Tenors, he relishes the opportunity of branching out on his own, Matthew is right at home with the idea of performing to new audiences in a truly unique way!
You can choose 8 musical pieces for your concert. It can include up to 5 vocal pieces performed by Matthew.
All concerts are listed according to the local Irish time.
